About this site
Hi I'm Virgil, a french software and game developer with 5+ years of experience, and this is Edelweiss Grove! It is an independent blog I run on my own server where I share thoughts, stories, tips and ideas centered around software and game development as well as pixel art. I also share devlogs of the games I'm working on.
All the posts will be in English. Although English is not my first language, I like to think I'm proficient with it, and you might find my prose pleasant to read, who knows?

By signing up with your mail you gain access to every posts, even the archived ones. You also receive a mail notification when I make a new post! It is completely free and will stay free for as long as it is sustainable for me to do so. You can of course disable mail notifications after sign up.
I don't expect much people to read what I'm posting, let alone sign up for a newsletter, and I want this blog to offer interesting informations you can straight up find from a quick search, especially for the tutorials I intend to write. This incentivizes keeping this website free for all to enjoy. 😊
About me
I've been a fully fledged software developer since 2019 when I started my freelancing business at the time during my Bachelor Degree. I was 19 at the time. Through the years I've been able to keep up a good customer base and afford living with this business alone. Then in 2022 I decided to finally get a master degree to transition to game development, specifically trying to set up my own studio while getting my degree.
I've been passionate about game development and programming in general since the age of 13, making small unfinished games on RPG Maker VX ACE, sometimes even modifying the engine to do my own systems. I also did some Minecraft modpacks and mods already forgotten with time, and it's a real shame I don't have them anymore. But I suppose that's what happens when you don't know what a source control manager is, right?
Right now I have the chance to found my own studio while getting a degree, and if I fail, the experiences I gained from this endeavour will allow me to get back on my feet quickly without taking too much risks. This blog is part of that great big project I have much to reveal in time, but you can follow my journey here if you're inclined to!
For a more formal presentation about me, akin to a CV really, you can visit my website.
